Everyone has secrets. I have secrets. Some secrets seem so big and bad that you worry that no one will understand. You keep them to yourself and don't even tell your best friends for fear of losing them. Eventually, however, most people's secrets get out. Closets are only so big, and can only hold so many skeletons.

We all think we have secrets; actually, they have us.

The number-one reason people keep secrets or lie is to "keep the peace." We hold onto secrets to keep other people happy, safe, set in their vision of the world, and their vision of us.

Can you keep a secret? As strange as it may sound, keeping a secret is one hell of a difficult job to do. We've all got secrets. Secrets are of many types. There are harmless, jovial, funny, gossipy secrets but in this very piece, I am focusing on that disturbing failure in keeping secrets done solely with malicious intent and calculated towards damaging someone's reputation.

To keep a secret can be so hard and difficult for so many people to the extent that the only way out for them to relieve themselves of such a great burden will be just to spill the beans not minding whose ox is eventually gored in the process.

It is a part of human nature for one friend to tell another the secret and expect that friend to keep the secret for you. A strong friendship should have some kind of foundation and trust. If a friendship lacks these two fundamental elements, then that relationship would not last. Friends should be able to trust one another and share whatever on ones' mind. Also, friends tell other friends their secrets because it helps them liberate the pressure and anxiety that's building inside.

Nonetheless, the reason you would want to tell someone your secret is because it is eating you up inside and the only way to release it is to tell someone something. After telling the whole secret or even just a little part of it does a lot of good. Many people tell secrets for a different reasons.
