“It is not about who you want to be when you grow up but what you want to grow into!”

A well-designed life is a generative life. It is constantly creative, productive, changing, evolving and there is always the possibility of surprise. Research shows that for most people, passion comes after they try something, discover they like it, and develop mastery- not before. More simply, passion is a result of good life design not the cause.

Design thinking states that the best results come from radical collaborations that leads to unique solutions. Designers believe in radical collaborations because we design our lives in collaboration and connection with others. Your life design isn’t in you; it’s in the world, where you will discover and co-create with others. Everyone participating in your life design effort are regarded as part of your team, but plays different roles.

The team should include the right set of people that help us to keep track of our goals. They are mentors and friends that push us to do better and make life fun. What makes an effective community is not having people in it with the right expertise or information. What makes it work is people with the right intention and presence. You should be a genius at your life design but do not be a lone genius.

“If you think life is a highway, then you’ve got it wrong, it’s more like a winding path through an unpredictable forest.”

Not only do you have to wade the swamp and battle the beasts, but time after time you come to a crossroad, left? Right? Straight ahead? You need to design your life to move into the sunlight and end up where you want to be.
