Relaxation is necessary for one’s day to day active life. A person must work hard but his energy is limited, and if he spends too much of it he will soon feel tired. Even a machine cannot work for a long time at a stretch and it is given rest at regular intervals, otherwise, it gets out of order.

To move out of our daily hectic schedule life or more specific to relax, we need to perform several activities of our choice to get relax, which also provide amusement, benefit to us. Some of them that I follow are dancing, reading and watching movies or watching Television. Relaxation is something that most people in the world do not get to have very often. When I get the chance to relax, there are three things that I enjoy doing to calm myself down: Listening to soft music, pampering myself, and sleeping are my three favourite things to do. Although some people prefer exercising to relieve themselves of stress, I find that relaxing is a great way to rid myself of a stressful day.

Playing a slow song after a hard day of classes or work is a regular activity for me. Having a soothing song with a slow beat is a great way to release all my negative energy. This way I can sing at my leisure and not have to worry about anyone correcting me or caring if I am off-tone with the song. Lyrics to a song are also important to me if I want to relax. I can not fully lie back and feel at peace with myself if I am hearing lyrics that are full of dirty language and bad words. For me to relax, I need to play music softball because otherwise the words overpower my thoughts, and drain out any knowledge that I am trying to keep within myself or release from myself. The softer the music, the more likely it will put me to sleep or set me in a mellow mood. A mood that I am looking for if I am trying to relax. I find that love song are the best songs to relax me. The lyrics are full of love, not hate, and the beat is slow, not fast and furious. These songs fill my heart with joy and make me think of good things rather than bad things.

Many of us find it difficult to relax. Instead, we run around frantically, are tense and anxious, always ready to doubt. The mind continually raises doubts, making it hard to quiet and tame our mind in meditation. This is a big challenge for most of us. As we attempt to take to heart this advice to just relax, we are also admonished to work hard at meditation. This seems both confusing and contradictory.

Practising ‘relaxation’ is paramount to managing stress. When we relax, the flow of blood increases around our body giving us more energy. It helps us to have a calmer and clearer mind which aids positive thinking, concentration, memory and decision making. Relaxation slows our heart rate, reduces our blood pressure and relieves tension. It also aids digestion as we absorb essential nutrients more efficiently when relaxed, which helps to fight off disease and infection.

Not only should we start our day feeling refreshed but we should continue to refresh at various points throughout our day! Schedule in 5 minutes a few times during your day to reduce stress levels and give your energy levels a boost. Masters urge us to do the work of meditation, but they also tell us to just relax. This feels like one of those mixed messages of the Saints. Put in the effort, but relax – empty the mind, quiet your thoughts – sit there quietly and just relax! Just relax!!
