Trustfulness, in words and actions; honesty and enthusiasm towards others. In today’s world, it can be difficult to express ourselves and be who we really are because we’re afraid of ridicule or backlash online. Sincerity is a virtue that allows us to be who we really are and freely express ourselves.

When we are who we really are rather than trying to be someone else, we have more self-love and self-respect. This in turn makes us happier and more fulfilled human beings. Equipped with irony and cynicism, people avoid genuine behavior and openness, and thus, evade all the failings that come with being a human being. This disconnected toolbox enables us to rise above the very stark, very real faltering of our imperfect selves.

This fear of ourselves is not without consequence — the fortunate fact of the matter is that quite the opposite rings itself. If true without sincerely connecting to our peers miss out on a cornerstone of human life — the ability to forge real, meaningful connections. This most dangerously manifests itself into isolation and perhaps this can be chalked up as a reason for the rising rates of depression our generation has been tasked to endure.

So, here’s the thing about sincerity. You can’t fake it. it can’t tell you how to become sincere. In fact, I am not sure that someone insincere can change. But if you’ve been afraid to show sincerity in any sphere of your life, maybe it’s because you think it shows weakness. You’re wrong. Sincerity can be a tremendous asset to you as an individual. Don’t be afraid to demonstrate your sincerity with colleagues. You’ll find it makes you more effective in things you do.

Take the bold step into the first stage of sincerity by making your private and public state match. Don’t be afraid of who you are because it is better to be who you are rather than who you are not.
